Gay Rights Has Been a Bottom-Up Movement, Says Gavin Newsom

California’s Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom appeared on “Bloomberg West” with Emily Chang today to discuss the US Supreme Court’s recent rulings in favor of gay marriage. During the interview, the politician used an unfortunate choice of words to describe the gay rights movement when he said:

Change, literally in this case – it’s not just paraphrasing President Obama – but change really does start from the bottom up. And the whole movement on gay rights has been a bottom-up movement.
