“Our graphics guy was sick.”
“There was a printing error.”
“We hate our readers and we want to punish them.”
There are many reasons that the folks at The New York Times Magazine could give to help us understand their latest cover, but no excuse could possibly explain the horror show that is about to hit newsstands. Behold ‘Planet Hillary’:
The New York Times Magazine, a supplement included in the Sunday edition of The New York Times newspaper, is publishing a feature story on Hillary Clinton, focusing on the 2016 Presidential candidate’s “gravitational pull” (seriously, that is from the article).
What better way to portray Clinton’s “universal” appeal (that one is mine) than to depict her has a massive, crater-faced planet floating through the deep reaches of space. Nothing says “flattering” like telling a woman that she is the size of something large enough to draw celestial bodies towards her.
And conservatives have a “war on women?” ;)
Whatever the reasoning behind the cover, The New York Times Magazine has created one of the most unintentionally hilarious images of all time, and one that is begging to be Photoshopped.
Naturally, this is where the Internet stepped in. For the past two days, submissions have been coming in non-stop on numerous websites, including Twitter, showing humorous, altered versions of the NYT’s unfortunate picture.
Below are some of the best reworkings of The New York Times Magazine‘s now-infamous ‘Planet Hillary’ cover:
