If there is one quote which will define Barack Obama’s legacy, it is this one: “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it.”
This was the President’s signature sales pitch for Obamacare that he repeated ad nauseam during his 2008 Presidential campaign and into his first term in office, ultimately helping the bill become law in 2010.
The “If you like your plan” promise also ended up being one of the biggest lies in political history.
But Obama wasn’t the only politician trotting out this lie and singing the praises of Obamacare before it became a political landmine. Arkansas Democratic Senator Mark Pryor, who is up for reelection this campaign season, also went on record with the “If you like your plan” whopper when he said this in an 2012 interview with Arkansas Business:
What’s the bottom line? Are we going to be able to keep our plan? The answer is yes.
Today, the Club For Growth released a campaign ad targeting Sen. Pryor which centers on Obama’s habitual use of this epic lie, and shows Pryor parroting the President like the good little Obamabot he is. The ad also includes an actual parrot repeating the same lines from Obama, and honestly, it is hard to tell Sen. Pryor and the parrot apart.
The TV spot is intended to aid Pryor’s Republican opponent in the Arkansas Senate race, U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton, the candidate endorsed by the Club For Growth.
To Senator Mark Pryor, we say: “If you like your Senate seat, you can keep your Senate seat.”
